To Whom it May Concern,
My name is Kevin Sanford and I’m the senior pastor at Abundant Life Christian Centre in Galway, Ireland. I am writing this letter in support of Couy Griffin. I met Couy over a year ago in New Mexico. I was ministering in a small church in his small town, Reserve. After inviting me to breakfast the next morning, Couy shared his dream with me about riding a horse from ‘Gate to Gate’. As a preacher, I hear many people talk about how ‘God told them to do this or that thing’. Well, I was impressed with Couy because when I asked him what he had done about what God had ‘told him to do’, he said he had already gone from San Francisco to New York. “Well,” I said, “Galway is actually the very next port after New York”. I committed to him then and there that if he would come to Ireland, we would do our part to help him get across Europe and on his way to the Promised Land!…literally.
Though I intended to be a blessing to Couy, I didn’t expect him to be as big a blessing to me as he was!! As a pastor, my greatest joy and challenge is to train Christians to share their faith with a hurting world. Couy’s presence proved to be such a great injection of evangelism, vision, a cause and just plain ‘ole fun in the adventure of serving God. Our Church rallied naturally around to the fire that he lit among us. Everyone rose to the occasion as we felt the Spirit’s leading to support Couy and his ministry. We were all so excited to see the favour that this cowboy curried with the Lord, the public and with the press! We all wanted to get a horse and ride off into sunrise (he’s going East!). And being from Texas myself, I would have hit the happy trails with him if I’d had permission for the mission from my wife!!!
I would highly recommend Couy and his ministry to any church leader and congregation. He has a godly Christian character, a humble spirit and the ‘finger prints’ of God all over him. He will do at least as much for you as you do for him. He is frugal, committed and pure-hearted. Our wonderful church in Galway donated: money, tracts, cell phones, helped build his web page and develop Youtube uploads, a very nice van for his partner to drive all the way to Jerusalem, and we would have given him more if we could have. I would encourage any church or Christian group to row in with Couy. He can help you reach your city and mature your congregation.
