Horseback Across the USA
Horseback Across the USA
2006
In the spring of 2006 Couy Griffin travelled to San Francisco California to submit to a calling he felt from the Lord. This calling was to take a horse from his hometown in Reserve New Mexico and ride across the United States and abroad. Without knowing what to expect or just how the Lord was going to work, Couy packed his bags, loaded his horses and headed west to San Francisco.
Upon arriving in San Francisco Couy daily found confirmation from the Lord in this calling. From people he met to events that unfolded, God daily reassured his heart that this is where He desired him to be. Couy thanked God for that confirmation because he found himself to be the only one that believed he was sane.
Couy began the ministry from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco California. In the pouring rain on Easter Sunday morning, 2006, his journey began. The day was full of adventure as Couy rode his horse through the city streets of San Francisco. Couy rode for the full day until he found himself in quite a predicament: sitting in the back seat of a patrol car in handcuffs.
The San Francisco Police Department didn't know what to think of a cowboy from New Mexico riding a horse inside the city telling people about Jesus. Couy really believed that they thought he was crazy and likes to think that after the interrogation at the police department they had an understanding of the Gospel. Praise God!!
After a full day of adventure in the city, Couy rested up, prayed up and came up with a plan. He would haul his horse from town to town, city to city in an attempt to reach people with the saving grace message of Jesus Christ. God blessed this and what an amazing summer Couy had.
He stayed on the road for the next 5 and a half months, travelling through the Midwest. His trek led him through: California, Nevada, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. Couy rode his horses into each capitol and every major city in between. By God's grace Couy lifted up the Name of Jesus and handed out over 4,500 copies of the Gospel of John. Some of the downtown areas he covered included: Sacramento, Reno, Denver, Dodge City, Kansas City, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and New York City. Couy finished the summer by riding his horse through Central Park, Times Square and then to the Trade Center Site on September 11th, 2006. What a blessing it was to see the Christian Flag flying and the Name of Jesus lifted up at such a significant time.
Upon finishing the summer’s ministry Couy headed back to New Mexico and spent the winter in his hometown of Reserve.
